I found this article on Yahoo! Health and I had to search a little for it. My current method of birth control is the nuvaring and I had trouble finding an article current enough to mention it!
Anyway, I thought this was interesting...
"If you are planning to become pregnant, it is ideal to have a full menstrual cycle before you try to conceive. You can more accurately calculate the fetus's age by counting from the first day of your last menstrual period before you became pregnant.
The amount of time it takes for a woman's full fertility to return after stopping birth control varies for each woman and depends on the birth control method she is using. Your ability to get pregnant gradually decreases as you age, starting at age 25. Poor health and irregular periods may also decrease your fertility. After you stop any form of birth control, you may have a more difficult time getting pregnant simply because you are older than when you started using birth control.
Barrier methods.
You can get pregnant the next time you have sex when you stop using any barrier method. Barrier methods include the diaphragm, cervical cap, Lea's Shield, male condom, female condom, and spermicidal foam, sponge, gel, suppository, and film.
Combination hormonal methods.
These methods include pills, skin patches, and rings. They contain both estrogen and progestin (synthetic progesterone). You can get pregnant right away after stopping regular dose or low-dose hormonal birth control. About half of women get pregnant in the first 3 months after stopping the Pill, and most women get pregnant within 12 months after stopping the Pill. Specific information about how quickly a woman's fertility returns after stopping use of patches or rings is not available, although experts believe the delay may be similar to or shorter than the Pill.
Progestin-only hormonal methods.
It may take 3 to 18 months after your last Depo-Provera shot (a progestin-only hormonal method) to get pregnant. The progestin-only pill, also called the "mini-pill," does not seem to delay fertility. Most women will get pregnant within 6 months after stopping the mini-pill.
Intrauterine devices (IUDs).
For both the Copper-T 380 A and Mirena IUDs, fertility usually returns with the first menstrual cycle following IUD removal.
If you get pregnant shortly after stopping the Pill, don't worry. Using oral contraception just before a pregnancy doesn't increase the risks of miscarriage or fetal problems. However, if you do not have a normal menstrual cycle before you become pregnant, it might be a little harder to accurately predict your due date.
If you are planning to become pregnant, it is a good idea to start taking a multivitamin that contains folic acid (400 micrograms). Taking this vitamin in early pregnancy can reduce your chances of having a baby with certain birth defects."

Interesting! Didn't know it was best practice to have a full cycle before trying.
1I didn't either! But last time I was at the doctor's, she had mentioned it and I just figured it was to get all the hormones out of the body or whatever. But I hadn't even thought about this!
2Yeah, I was 24 when we actually tried to get pregnant with #2. And when I say tried, I use the term loosely meaning I didn't put on a new patch that Sunday. I found out I was pregnant like the next week. We were extremely fertile.
3One of my coworker's, his girlfriend had the same problem with the patch. Well, hers just plain didn't work. And now his daughter is 4.
I hated that stupid patch when I wore it!
4I didn't know all this. Out of all my five children, only #2 was actually planned meaning I stopped using the pill and it took a good 3-4 months to conceive. I knew when I was ovulating and was trying but it still took 3-4 months and I had only been on the pill for about three years. I was 20 almost 21 at the time.
5Interesting article, I never used anything other than condoms hence the 3 kids, 2 of them a surprise
The weird thing is that the 2 that were unplanned are a day apart in B'days Feb. 5 and Feb. 6, so I'm thinking May is my super fertile month
*Thank you. My real name... is plain... Jane Jones. (Alice - Closer)
6I think the same for me too Sandy. If you look at my kids birthdays Scotty being 2/17/1990 and Autumn being 2/18/1996. Well I guess in the Spring in general because all the kids but Hunter were born in the Winter and Hunter was conceived in February. Weird I guess.
7At the moment, I'm hoping to start some trying around May and I'd love a February birthday, so I kinda hope May is my fertile time!
I just don't want to have to carry a baby through the hot summer months. My sister-in-law had 2 kids in August/September and I don't want to share that fate!
I wonder if it's also just easier to conceive when you're not consciously thinking about it...?
8Thanks for this...my husband and I are going to start trying next year and this is great to know.
9That's true ALSW, it's when you stop thinking about it when it usually happens. I think stressing over it kind of keeps it from happening. You know how stress affects the body in a negative way.
10I was preggy in the summer and it wasn't fun!! But at the time we were living in WI and had NO ac, so it was muggy and hot and gross... I thought I would go crazy before I even had the baby. I had her Jan 22 (2nd b-day coming up soon!!!) so I was preg some of the winter too.
11Next time I hope to plan it out (first one was a surprise) so I can be my most preg in the winter!!!!
ANyway, good luck to you, and I hope it happens when you plan on it and that everything goes good! Babies are so much fun (hard work too, don't get me wrong!), you'll love being a mom!
Hummmm, just thinking but maybe even better is to get preggy in like Oct and have the baby in around june, then your preg most of the cool months and have the baby right before it starts to get hot.
12Well, hmmm.... so I guess there goes my theory that it normally takes up to a year to get pregnant off of BC.
13Well, hmmm.... so I guess there goes my theory that it normally takes up to a year to get pregnant off of BC.
14Very interesting read. Thanks for posting ALSW!
15some friends of mine were trying to get preggers last year and discovered some of the same things due to their methods...I think it's funny (not ha ha funny, like ironic) that there's so many people both frantically trying to have children and also frantically trying to NOT have children.
1625!
17I know! I can't believe my ability to start getting pregnant is already on the decline...
18Has anyone heard of women needing to take clomid after being on BC for a while??? Like just to start their periods????
19I've never heard of that. Interesting. Do you remember where you heard it or how long they'd been on BC?
20Well I had been on BC for a LONG time-- when I was 22 I was off BC (no insurance) so I did not have my period for like 5 months... well the doctor put me on Clomid and then back on BC so I could have the period first then get back on the BC.... I am just worried that is how its going to be with me this time, so I was going to ask the Dr. today at my appt. I don't want to sound dumb though.
21what kind of BC are you on?? Do you get your period ever?
22now I get my periods every month- I am now on Ortho Tricyclen. I ran triatholons so maybe I was not ovulating at that time??
23Oh okay. My one friend did the depro shot and never got her period. BUT she still managed to get prego
.. She must be super fertile. She was only a month late of getting her shot, I think.
I have heard a lot of exercise can do that. A lot of gymnasts never get their period until they stop. Of course I dunno if that is true.
24That could certainly be part of it if you were exercising a lot. See if you can find anything on the internet about it as well.
I haven't been off BC since I was 17, so I can't help you with that one.
And, honestly, forget about possibly looking dumb - better to ask and to know!
25Before you went on BC ever, did you have any problems with your period?
26Nope, I never had a problem before the BC. I just hate the drs here on the army post they are so quick with their visit! I forget things, I should write down my questions.
27I am off to the gym
time to elipticize. hahahaha is that a verb?
28I would definitely write them down. I've done that before - after all, the doctors are THERE for YOU!
I'd rather write it all down and annoy them to death than worry about it later or have to make another appt or something.
29It's a verb now!
30Bye bye!
